When it comes to making a benefit claim as a result of death or disablement, our job is to make sure you or your family are not on your own. We have a specialist claims team who will look after your claim and do everything they can to make the process as easy as possible.
Lodge the claim as soon as you can
To make sure your claim is processed quickly and smoothly, we need you or your family to contact us and lodge the claim as soon as you can. The first thing to do is call us on 1800 757 607 and a member of our team will talk you or your family through what needs to happen next.
What to expect when making a claim
When we are advised of a member’s passing our first priority is to provide support and assistance to the member’s beneficiaries in relation to their death benefit. Once a claim is submitted, any amount insured would be added to the member’s benefit in the Fund and would form part of the death benefit. We can be contacted at any time with questions or for further assistance.
When you call us regarding a disablement claim, we’ll take you through the process step by step, and do everything possible to help you in any way we can along the way. Although you may choose to have legal representation, you do not need it when making a disablement claim.
You will need to:
- Complete a claim form – we will provide you with the right one after you call us.
- Provide at least one report from a Medical Practitioner certifying your condition.
You may also need to:
- Provide a second report from a Medical Practitioner.
- Undergo a medical examination.
How long will it take?
The time it takes to process your claim depends on many different things. These include your type of claim, the medical reasons for your claim and the insurer’s requirements. However, the claims team at Maritime Super will do everything they can to make it happen as quickly as possible and keep you informed every step of the way.
