There are several superannuation products available to members of the Seafarers division of Maritime Super:

Contributory Accumulation

Contributory Accumulation provides superannuation for seafarers and other employees working in the maritime industry. In this category, employers and working members should make contributions (at a minimum of 13% and 5% of Fund Benchmark Salary respectively).

Who can join?

To qualify for membership of the Contributory Accumulation category, you must be a seaman, steward, integrated rating, leading hand, deckhand, cook, chef, IR caterer, pipe or crane operator, greaser, fitter or coxswain and work in the maritime industry for a Participating Employer to the Seafarers division of Maritime Super. Ask your payroll office whether they can nominate you for membership of Contributory Accumulation.

If you work for SVITZER, Inco Ships, Nighturn, CSL, Teekay Shipping (Australia) Pty Ltd or Trident LNG Shipping Services Pty Ltd, other membership categories are available to you.

Accumulation

Accumulation provides superannuation for seafarers and other employees working in the maritime industry. In this category, only employer sponsors are required to make contributions (at the level required to meet their Superannuation Guarantee (SG) obligations).

Who can join?

To qualify for membership of the Accumulation category, you must be a master, ships officer, deck officer, mate, engineer, electrician, radio operator, shipwright, purser, or on-shore administration or management and be employed in the maritime industry for a Participating Employer to the Seafarers division of Maritime Super.

If you are an employee of SVITZER, Inco Ships, Nighturn, CSL, Teekay Shipping (Australia) Pty Ltd or Trident LNG Shipping Services Pty Ltd, other membership categories may be available to you.

INCO Sub-fund

The INCO category is a sub-fund of the Seafarers division of Maritime Super which is employer-sponsored.

Who can join?

To qualify for membership in the Inco Sub-fund, you will be a seafaring employee of Inco Ships, Nighturn or CSL and your employer will nominate you for membership.

As an Inco Sub-fund member, you can keep your benefit with Maritime Super for as long as you wish - this applies even if you take up employment outside the seafaring industry.

SVITZER Accumulation

The SVITZER Accumulation category is a sub-fund of the Seafarers division of Maritime Super which is employer-sponsored.

Who can join?

To qualify for membership in the SVITZER category you must be an employee of SVITZER.

AMOU Staff

The AMOU Staff category provides superannuation for employees working for the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU). In this category, AMOU funds the member's Basic insurance cover on death or disablement.

Who can join?

To qualify for membership in this category you must be an employee of AMOU.

  • AMOU makes contributions on your behalf equal to 18% of your Salary
  • Basic insurance cover on death and disablement funded by AMOU

Closed Products

The Seafarers division also includes the SVITZER defined benefit category (includes ex Howard Smith defined benefit members and ex P & O defined benefit members) and three pension products (includes Lifetime, Fixed-Term and Term Allocated Pensions), which are not open to new members.

If you are the holder of one of these closed products, you should contact Member Services for more information on your benefits or the terms and conditions of any pension.
